“It doesn’t matter if it takes a long time getting there; the point is to have a destination.”
― Eudora Welty
I’ve been writing for a long time. Since I was four. When I learned to read and then drew the letters on paper.
I’ve been writing professionally around twenty-five years. The other day, one of my novels, (Rain Dance) made history – for me. It became a #1 Bestseller on Amazon. (see the orange ribbon under those stars?) I was stunned. Because it’s an old book.
Here’s what I mean. I self-published it twice. Then, a traditional publisher picked it up and dropped it. Believing it wasn’t done being read (because family, friends, and readers said so), I self-published it again as an eBook. That’s the version that had a change in ranking the other day.
11 years after it was first released. Plus two years writing it.
See? Old book.
And sort of a rule-breaker because if it hasn’t been a bestseller much earlier, it’s not supposed to be. Except it is.
Today, we’re told to hurry and do it NOW if we’re to have any hope of publishing success. I’m obviously not good at hurrying.
I do have other books out there, and they’ve all taken their own sweet time getting from my heart to the pages, and finally to the readers.
And that’s okay. Really okay. Eudora Welty said so.
Since I was four the dream was to write to have readers. And almost 53 years later I do.
Am I famous? No. Am I rich? No. But I’m an author with a book that spent some time on an Amazon Bestseller List. (yes, these words are worthy of caps) In today’s publishing rush, this ranking is temporary. But it happened.
Rain Dance and I made it. For a couple of days. The orange ribbon is gone now and belongs to another author, but I’m very grateful. Especially for those who love me, and those who love the book wouldn’t let me quit. Even though it took so long.
Until Next Time,
