We both heard the other jays on their way. I sat on the edge of my seat and watched as this one swallowed one peanut in the shell whole and then another before the others arrived. The ways of birds fascinate me.

The other day was so windy and cold - that happens

The other day was so windy and cold - that happens when the wind comes straight out of the north! Blue jays usually take time to "test" each peanut they chose - there are a lot of thoughts on this habit they seem to be born with, but I think they like getting the best of the best. 🙂

However, on this day, this jay didn't bother testing - he picked a nut, flew to the tree, and ate it before flying in for another. He was hungry, and instinct told him the cold was going to get colder.

I thought to myself that it was a stop & go kind of day.

And that led me to remember the first Stop & Go store I went to. It was on the corner of Broadway and 9th Street in Rochester. And that led me to remember Mrs. Elaine Mulholland, who was our crossing guard. My mom was also a crossing guard on another corner in town. That led me to so many other memories that I'm sure I missed dozens of great photos while I was wrapped up in reminiscing.

All because a blue jay got me to thinking. 🙂

She sat quietly eating. It was her turn. Sometimes

She sat quietly eating. It was her turn. Sometimes she watched me, but most of the time, she kept her eye on the radiant red fellow hidden in the branches.

I love her muted beauty even more than his. And her head feathers were the best!

She will never know how much she delighted me by sharing space with me. But her Creator knows, and I thanked Him for her on that day, and I thanked Him today, looking at her again. It's a nice photo, but it doesn't fully capture her loveliness. Or the sweetness of time spent with her.
